- Payment information: processed securely by Stripe — we never store your card details
- Generated content: for premium users who save documents to their library
- Usage data: which tools you use, word counts, and timestamps for service improvement and usage tracking
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, and device information collected automatically
- Cookies: essential cookies for authentication and optional cookies for analytics and advertising
3. How We Use Your Data
- To provide and maintain the WriteSmith AI service
- To process your text through our AI tools (text is sent to AI providers for processing)
- To track usage limits and manage subscriptions
- To improve our tools and develop new features
- To send you emails about your account, and marketing emails if you opted in (you can unsubscribe at any time)
- To display relevant advertising for free-tier users (premium users see no ads)
4. AI Processing — Important Notice
When you use our AI-powered tools, the text you submit is sent to third-party AI providers for processing. For free users, text is processed by Groq (using Llama models). For premium users, text may also be processed by Anthropic (using Claude models).
Text submitted to these providers is used solely to generate your results and is not stored by WriteSmith AI after processing completes, unless you are a premium user who explicitly saves content to your document library. Please review the privacy policies of Groq and Anthropic for details on how they handle data.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Supabase — database hosting and user authentication
- Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions and credit packs
- Groq — AI text processing (free tier)
- Anthropic — AI text processing (premium tiers)
- Vercel — website hosting and deployment
- Resend — transactional and marketing emails
- Google AdSense — advertising displayed to free-tier users
6. Data Retention
- Account data: retained until you delete your account
- Document library: saved content retained for premium users until deletion; becomes read-only if you downgrade to free
- Usage logs: retained for analytics and service improvement
- Processed text: not stored after processing completes (unless explicitly saved to library)
7. Cookies
We use the following types of cookies:
- Essential cookies: required for authentication and basic site functionality — these cannot be disabled
- Analytics cookies: help us understand how visitors use the site (optional)
- Advertising cookies: used by Google AdSense to display relevant ads to free-tier users (optional)
